A misty headland above a quiet grey sea at dawn, with a low stone house among oak trees

A small retreat on Carrow Head

Come down slowly.

Three, five or seven days on a quiet headland. Warm water, long walks, good food and nothing you have to finish.

  • 12 guests at a time
  • No screens in shared rooms
  • Open March to mid December

One minute, no sign up

Before you scroll further, breathe.

This is how every day at Alderlight begins. Follow the circle. Let it lead, and let your shoulders drop on the way out.

Our philosophy

Rest is not a reward. It is a skill.

Most of us arrive tired in a way that sleep alone does not fix. Alderlight was built around a simple idea: give the nervous system enough quiet, enough warmth and enough nature, and it remembers what to do.

There are no ranks, no streaks and no fitness targets here. Days are shaped by breath, water, walking and meals eaten slowly. Everything else is optional, including the schedule.

  • 01

    Less

Twelve guests, never more. A short list of things done well.

  • 02

    Slower

Nothing starts before seven. Nothing is rushed, including supper.

  • 03

    Outside

Salt air, cold water, long light. Most of the work happens outdoors.

Guest words

I came in with a head full of lists. By the second morning I was watching a gull for twenty minutes and did not once reach for my phone.

Ines, guest on The Restore

The food was simple and so good. The silence was the real luxury, and nobody made me feel strange for taking it.

Marcus, guest on The Return

I booked a weekend because I could not manage more. I left with a breathing practice I still use every night, eight months later.

Priya, guest on The Reset

Linh's treatment was the first time my shoulders had come down in years. I cried a little, drank the tea, slept eleven hours.

Small notes on slowness.

Questions

Good to know.

How do I get to Alderlight?

Take the train to Carrow Cross, then our shuttle covers the last 25 minutes of coast road. We send times after you reserve and meet every arrival between 13:00 and 15:00.

Do I really have to give up my phone?

No. Phones are welcome in your room. We ask that shared spaces stay screen free, and most guests choose to leave the phone in a linen pouch by the door for the whole stay.

Can I come on my own?

Most of our guests do. Solo guests have their own room, and there is never any pressure to talk at meals. Quiet is the default.

What about food and dietary needs?

All meals are plant-forward and made from local produce, with fish on two evenings. Vegan, gluten free and most allergy needs are easy, just tell us in the notes when you reserve.

What is your cancellation policy?

Free changes and cancellation up to 14 days before arrival. Inside 14 days we hold your deposit as credit for a future stay within twelve months.

Do I need experience of yoga or meditation?

None at all. Every session has an easy option and an even easier one. You are always free to sit one out and watch the sea.

What should I bring?

Loose clothes, walking shoes, a swimsuit and a warm layer for evenings. We provide robes, towels, mats and rain jackets.
